Did you know that an SEO-friendly website theme can significantly increase your website traffic? So, how do we choose a free SEO theme for a website?
In this article, we’ll discuss and share reviews of free SEO themes for WordPress that have been personally tested and used.
Moreover, we’ll cover the pros and cons of each theme. Because essentially, choosing a theme for your website isn’t just about an attractive design it’s the foundation that supports your site’s performance.
To begin with, it’s important to understand that although there are many page builders like Elementor that simplify website creation, these plugins are often targets of hacking.
For instance, if you search the keyword “Elementor hacked,” you’ll find that this plugin had security issues in December 2023, May 2023, October, and even as far back as April 2022. This means that within a relatively short period, this plugin has been repeatedly hacked.
In addition to security concerns, page builders also tend to slow down your site’s loading speed. What’s more, if you decide to migrate away from such systems, the process can be a hassle and prone to errors.
That’s why we recommend using lightweight, SEO-friendly themes. In this article, we’ll highlight three themes you can use, along with some additional theme recommendations that are easy to use, diverse, and much more flexible.
This theme has been around for quite a while and is known as one of the most reliable and widely used themes. WP Astra also offers a variety of starter templates that can be used right away to speed up website creation.

However, when we attempted to switch to the Gutenberg editor some time ago, Astra was not yet fully compatible with Gutenberg although they’ve now improved their support.
In addition, while the theme’s speed is decent, there are still areas that need improvement to achieve optimal performance.
On the other hand, WP Astra excels in terms of theme variety. They offer hundreds of design templates to choose from, making it an attractive option for users who want visual flexibility. However, many of those designs are not yet fully optimized for SEO and speed.
Next, we have GeneratePress one of our top favorites to this day. In fact, we’re still actively using it on several live websites.
The main advantage of GeneratePress lies in its extremely fast and lightweight performance making it an ideal choice for websites that prioritize SEO.

However, its drawback lies in the design aspect. This theme doesn’t offer many ready-made design variations. Therefore, you’ll need to have a basic understanding of CSS and design to create an appealing layout.
In other words, if you're not someone who enjoys tinkering or customizing, or if you're not yet familiar with it, this theme might feel a bit challenging due to its technical nature.
Nevertheless, GeneratePress remains a solid choice because it allows you to select which features to enable. It’s compatible with WooCommerce, mobile responsive, and supports many essential plugins.
Next, we move on to the third theme: Kadence WP. This is a theme we’ve only recently started testing, but my first impression has been quite positive. One of Kadence's strengths is its ease of use — you can build a website quickly without having to spend much time reconfiguring basic elements.

Furthermore, Kadence is already compatible with Gutenberg and offers various features such as customizable color, font, and layout settings.
Although it doesn't have as many templates as WP Astra, Kadence still offers a fairly appealing design library.
However, if you’re aiming for a highly specific website look that’s fully tailored to your business needs, this theme might not be enough. Kadence is more suitable for users who want a quick, lightweight, yet professional-looking solution.
Next, the theme we’ll discuss is a product from eiTheme. This theme offers a wide range of variations and comes with numerous advantages, including :
eiTheme themes are available for various business needs, including personal blogs, e-commerce stores, corporate websites, professional bio link pages, and many other types of websites.
To wrap up this article, we’ve reviewed several highly SEO-friendly WordPress themes you can use for your business website, including :
