
When you hear the term AI or Artificial Intelligence, does your mind immediately go to evil robots in sci-fi movies? Often, AI is portrayed as a threat to humans, even as having malicious intentions. So, is AI a threat or a solution?
In reality, that way of thinking is quite misleading, and the portrayal isn’t entirely accurate. In fact, AI can work alongside humans.
In real life, AI has already become a part of our everyday lives—often without us even realizing it. This technology helps simplify many activities. For example, unlocking your phone with a fingerprint or facial recognition is made possible by AI.
Additionally, when you search for information on Google, AI helps tailor the results to better match what you're looking for.
AI is also present on social media platforms, such as Facebook’s automatic facial recognition feature, or the facial-shaping filters on Instagram and TikTok.
AI also plays a role in recommending content based on your habits. If you often watch K-pop content, for instance, the algorithm will likely suggest similar videos more frequently.
Similar features can be found on streaming platforms, online stores, and even virtual assistants like Siri or Google Assistant.
AI is also used in navigation apps like Google Maps to determine the fastest route and estimate travel time. In the gaming world, AI controls non-player character movements and helps create more realistic and interactive graphics.
AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is a system that enables computers to think and act like humans. It was first introduced at the Dartmouth Conference in 1956 by John McCarthy, an American computer scientist.
Generally, there are four main approaches used in AI: searching, reasoning, planning, and learning.
Searching is the process of systematically finding solutions, such as in navigation apps.
Reasoning refers to the ability to draw conclusions from existing data, like in medical diagnosis applications.
Planning is used to break down large problems into smaller, structured steps, as seen in vehicle manufacturing.
Learning involves the ability to learn from data and form patterns, such as in self-driving cars.
One of AI’s biggest strengths is its ability to complete tasks quickly and efficiently, saving both time and cost. AI can process large amounts of data and recognize patterns and trends more accurately.
Moreover, AI doesn’t get tired. It can work continuously for 24 hours, something humans cannot easily do. Since it isn’t affected by emotions or fatigue, AI tends to be more consistent and less error-prone.
However, it's important to note that AI isn't without risks. One major challenge is its dependence on large amounts of high-quality data. If the data used is inaccurate or biased, AI’s results can also be skewed.
For example, if a system is trained only on data from male patients, it may produce inaccurate results when applied to female patients.
Privacy is another concern. AI can record and analyze personal data, which could be misused if it falls into the wrong hands.
Additionally, overreliance on AI may cause people to become less mentally active or even lose their jobs, such as in customer service roles that are now often handled by chatbots.
AI is now being utilized in many sectors Healthcare: AI can help schedule appointments, diagnose diseases early, and recommend suitable treatments.
Security : AI is used to detect suspicious activities through surveillance cameras and protect digital systems from cyberattacks.
Finance : AI assists in analyzing economic trends, predicting investment risks, and monitoring suspicious transactions.
Business : AI helps create more targeted ads and responds to customer inquiries quickly and efficiently.
Automotive : AI enables vehicles to read road conditions, detect dangers, and prevent accidents. Car factories now use AI-based automation to improve production quality and efficiency.
Logistics : AI organizes product distribution routes to be more efficient and cost-effective.
Agriculture : AI helps farmers monitor land conditions, control pests, and forecast harvest yields.
Environment : AI analyzes data from sensors and satellites to monitor climate change and environmental conditions.
The education sector is also benefiting from AI. AI-based systems can monitor students’ learning progress and recommend materials or teaching methods that match their learning style.
Considering the vast benefits of AI, we can't deny its significant role in modern life. Even so, we must also understand its limitations.
Therefore, it's important to use this technology wisely, critically, and responsibly.
